Report: DepEd Suppliers Overpricing Computers Sold to Gov’t By Over 4000%

overpriced

This is really sad and angering news

News5 is reporting that they have uncovered three suppliers of the Department of Education or DepEd selling overpriced PCs and books to the government agency. Apparently these three suppliers are selling PCs that are already obsolete by modern standards to the government agency at a massive, almost ridiculous profit. In one of the documents shown by News5, the specs of the PC priced at 400,000 include a Pentium IV processor, 40GB of storage and Windows 98 SE. For that money, you can buy at least 3 top of the line Razer Blade gaming notebooks with plenty of cash left over. Even considering the time when the alleged overpriced PCs were bought (2008 to 2010) the price and the specs of the PCs are still comically low.

According to the report, at least two high-ranking DepEd officials have knowledge of the scheme and are receiving millions of pesos worth of kickbacks from the three suppliers. Two of the linked DepEd officials are still serving under the government agency, and stil use the three suppliers for their needs.
