We may finally see a phone running Ubuntu out of the box

More rumors about the Meizu M1 Mini coming out of China today: apparently there will be three versions of the brand new device that will be officially unveiled on January 28, The three OS variants will be the regular Android version powered by Meizu’s own Flyme OS, YunOS (developed by Alibaba) and finally, Ubuntu. Ubuntu for phones have been floating around for a while now, and while there’s been tech demos of the new OS installed on several Android phones before, this may be the first affordable smartphone to sport Ubuntu mobile out of the box.

The specs of the M1 Mini have also been leaked, which include a 5-inch HD display, 13-megapixel rear camera and a price of RMB 799 at launch, or Php 5659. Meizu’s pricing makes it clear that they want to take on Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi Note 2 in terms of pricing, and they may just do it with this particular smartphone if the stars align.
