Here’s a great pair of cans for cheap!

Once you decide to take your listening experience to the next level, the most obvious step is to upgrage your cans. One of the more affordable high fidelity headphone brands in the market today is the t-JAYS One. It’s certainly more affordable than other options in the market, but is it deserving of your heard earned money and, more importantly, your ears?

Unique packaging and excellent build quality

The t-JAYS One came in one of the more unique boxes that we’ve seen. The device is contained in a solid plastic case, which also contains an extension cable for additional length as well as four additional silicone tips that range from small to large.

The overall build quality is good, and while the shape of the earphones is not exactly what you’d call typical, it fits extremely well and conforms with the contours of your ear.

Although it has a relatively small footprint, once inserted the t-JAYS One fits firmly in your ear, giving you a secure and comfortable fit. t-JAYS calls this their Slimline Design, which is also used in their other headphones, notably the Two and Three. Overall we liked this system of securing the headphones because it stayed on firmly while we were doing some parkour sessions, freeing us from worrying whether the headphones would pop out or not.

Unfortunately, not everyone’s physiology will be compatible with the Slimline Design, as evidenced by the photo above of the device being worn by Nicole Batac, one of our hosts for the Unbox Podcast. Nicole’s ear shape is not conducive to wearing the t-JAYS One, so checking if it fits your ear is a must before you purchase a pair.

The earphones has a total length of 23.5 inches, enough to run it from your head to your chest. You will need to use the extension cable which adds 27.5 inches, giving you a total of 51 inches, which is more than enough to reach the pocket of your pants (and then some). We were a bit annoyed with the length of the cable with the extension, which will be a bit of a challenge to hide if you’re OC about cable management.

Great overall sound quality

Overall sound quality of the t-JAYS One is relatively good. Bass is not a problem with the cans. We quite enjoyed the full range and clear treble that came from its drivers. Listening to One Republic’s Native album was a definite pleasure, although we did notice that the t-JAYS One could use a bit more clarity especially in high-pitch instruments, though it’s not that big of an issue.

Great pair of headphones with great value

Overall the t-JAYS one is a good investment if you’re looking to upgrade to a relatively affordable, quality pair of cans. At Php 3,600, it’s not that cruel to the pocket, and is able to deliver relatively good audio quality and excellent fit. It’s definitely a nice pair of headphones for active folks.
