Winter is Here

The long and short of it is that Season 8 will not follow the annual season premiere and it might even skip a year. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss shared that they’ve still to write the episodes of Season 8 and then start production. They have no firm date as to when Season 8 will air but they’re hoping for either mid-late 2018 or early 2019 at the latest.

That definitely sucks as the last episode that just aired had multiple cliffhangers that sets up what is expected to be one explosive finale season.

In the same interview, HBO also confirmed that the final season will only be 6 episodes compared to the 7 episodes of season 7 and the 10 episodes of Season 6. The good news is that all six episodes will be “feature film” in length, most likely similar to the 1 hour and 20 minute run time of the Season 7 finale.

So there you have it folks. It’s going to be a looooonnnngggg wait but it will definitely be worth it.
