Yes, not Windows 9, but 10

Microsoft has announced Windows 10, their latest operating system that the company is promising to be the most comprehensive platform that they’ve ever released. And yes, that’s not a typo – the company has completely skipped the number 9 and has gone straight to Windows 10.

Microsoft has apparently heard the feedback of users that used Windows 8, and has put back several key elements that was removed in Windows 8. The iconic start button is back, and made better with elements of Windows 8. The familiar looking start menu in Windows 7 is back, alongside some Live-tile looking icons on the side. Like Windows 8, you can resize the tiles on the Start menu.

While Microsoft is going back to its roots with some of the elements of Windows 10, the new OS is still touch friendly. The Windows Charms bar is still present, but the company has made a new Start Screen for users who are using hybrid devices (or tablets) with keyboards.

As far as release dates go, Windows 10 is pretty far off in the future – it’s slated to ship in the latter half of next year, 2015, so there’s still a lot of time for changes to be implemented in the look of the OS. Microsoft also said that the Windows Phone OS will also jump from 8.1 to 10, in line with the company’s unified vision of their OS.
