Here’s great news for cord cutters everywhere

Netflix is looking to expand into other countries including the Philippines after it saw domestic growth slow down, according to the New York Times. In an interview, Reed Hastings, Netflix’s chief executive said that the company is looking to re-create the same subscription based, advertising free model for several countries around the world, including the Philippines, and aims to complete their global expansion by the end of 2016.

“Once we complete the expansion, we’re going to have a very unique and compelling proposition to producers, which is we can get your content seen and loved around the world,” Mr. Hastings said in an interview. “In Kenya, in Argentina, in Vietnam, in the Philippines, just everywhere in the world that we can.”

The streaming video service currently has 57 million subscribers globally, and is available in 50 countries. It’s also responsible for creating original programming like the awesome House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black. Netflix’s expansion in the PH could shake up the local market, allowing Filipino viewers to finally have a viable option of not getting cable TV to (legally) watch their favorite TV series.
