Google’s Pixel 2 Undergoes Durability Test

That coating is prone to scratches

Right after the LG V30 underwent a durability test, YouTuber JerryRigEverything is back at it, this time with the Google Pixel 2.

After going through various scratching and bending, the Pixel 2 managed to not join JerryRigEverything’s shelf of shame, thanks to a few improvements like its Gorilla Glass 5 front and a metal speaker grill, which is an upgrade from the fabric speaker grill used in the first Pixel.

However, Jerry was not quite impressed with the Pixel 2’s “Premium Hybrid Coating”. While the Pixel 2 has an aluminum chassis, the Pixel 2 has a layer of a plastic-like exterior coating, which is vulnerable to scratches, paint chips, and color stains, as mentioned by Google on their website.

Another problem Jerry found in the Pixel 2 was during the bend test, where the frame cracked at where the plastic antenna line is found, next to the nanoSIM tray. While it did not totally destroy the phone, Jerry found it disappointing that the Pixel 2 had the same problem found in the iPhone 6 and Nexus 6P.
