1TB Memory Cards Are Now A Reality

1TB Memory Cards Are Now A Reality

You’ll have to pay a premium for it however

With cameras capable of shooting 4K (or even 8K) video and shoot 14-bit RAW images, the demand for memory is getting higher as well as these files consume a lot of space. To address this, brands have introduced memory cards as big as 512GB. Western Digital did unveil a prototype 1TB SanDisk SD card back in 2016, but Lexar beat them to the punch by unveiling the first 1TB SD card that is available in retail stores.

Lexar’s terabyte offering offers read speeds of up to 95MB/s and write speeds of 70MB/s. These cards have V30/U3 ratings, which guarantees a sustained 30MB/s write performance. Those numbers should be enough for most 4K-capable cameras and for those who prefer having a ginormous storage on-board.

If you really, really need such a card, B&H Photo has the 1TB SD Card available for pre-order for $399.99(~Php 20.9k), which is a steep price to pay for the convenience of bringing only one memory card with you.
