After showing up on Android One handsets, the newest version of Android is finally official

People went crazy trying to figure out what the newest version of Android Lollipop, 5.1, brought to the table when it launched with Android One handsets in Indonesia and the Philippines a few weeks back. Google wasn’t exactly telling us what the new update brought, but thankfully the search giant has finally spoken up and revealed the contents of the new update.

Just like we thought, Android 5.1 brought many stability fixes to the fore, but there’s a few new features hidden inside as well. The biggest one is device protection – Google says that your lost or stolen device will remain locked until you sign in with your Google account, even after someone wipes it clear of data using the factory reset settings. This is a great feature that’s meant to make Android devices useless to thieves, though the feature will only be available on Android Phones and tablets shipped with Android 5.1, along with the Nexus 6 and 9.
