Motorola’s branding will no longer be seen on phones
Motorola’s been a ubitquotous name in mobile communications, but you won’t be seeing the iconing Motorola name anywhere at the end of 2016. Lenovo, the parent company of Motorola, says it’s phasing out the Motorola branding in their phones this year, though they are retaining the Moto name and the signature M logo, effective relegating the Moto series to the mid and high-end of the company’s portfolio, with the Vibe name taking care of the lower and mid-range of the market. Also, that’s not a typo – there will be overlap between the Vibe and Moto lineup in the mid-range.
We’re sad to see the iconic Motorola branding go from phones – these are the same people who basically invented cellphones, after all, but it comes as no surprise following Lenovo’s efforts to streamline their mobile ambitions.
