Huawei MediaPad M5 lite Unboxing, Quick Review: Entertainment on the Go

We check out the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite!

We don’t get to review a lot of tablets these days, primarily because most tech companies seem to have given up on producing them. With mobile phones having bigger screens and laptops becoming smaller and more portable, why bother with tablets which people deem as an in-betweener?

Huawei seems to think that it’s still worth it and recently launched the MediaPad M5 lite. Let’s find out why.

What’s Inside the Box?

The MediaPad M5 lite comes in a clean, white packaging made elegant by the textured diagonal lines and the gold Huawei logo and product name.

Once you lift the cover, the first thing you’ll see is the device itself wrapped in a translucent plastic. Underneath, you’ll find the SIM ejector tool, the wall charger and the USB Type-C cable.

With that out of the way, let’s try to answer the big question:

Why use a tablet at all?

It offers a more immersive entertainment experience while on the go. The Huawei MediaPad M5 lite has a 10.1-inch full HD IPS display. That is still bigger than the biggest mobile phone display, and weighing approximately 475g, is still more portable than most lightweight laptops. Furthermore, it is enhanced through ClariVu 5.0, the leading display enhancement technology in the industry.

However, entertainment is not just about picture quality, audio matters a lot too. While most tablets have 2 speakers, the MediaPad M5 lite is equipped with quad speakers that are co-engineered with Harman Kardon, a brand known to deliver professional theater sound quality.

Safe for Children

While adults are often seen using their mobile phones, children seem to be frequent tablet users. To keep parents at ease, the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite has parental control features allowing them to limit the child’s usage of the device and customize content that they can view. It also offers 5 enhanced eye-comfort modes to protect their child’s eyes in case they watch too much cartoons or play too many games.

Beyond Entertainment

Yes, the Huawei MediaPad M5 lite is a great entertainment device but it is not just a “TV” while you are away from home. It can do other things too. Its 8-core processor can help you with your day-to-day tasks such as catching up on email, doing social media and getting some work done while on the go. Its 7,500 mAh battery ensures long hours of tablet use and quick charge technology is available when you do have to top up.

You have the option of purchasing the M-Pen lite stylus for taking down notes or simply organizing your life. It looks elegant, professional and matches the MediaPad M5 lite perfectly. It is pressure sensitive and comes with a clip to prevent you from accidentally losing it.

How Much Is It?

The Huawei MediaPad M5 lite is priced at Php 18,990. It is available for pre-order in Lazada from November 11 to 15 and will be available in other channels starting November 16.  We’ve yet to fully review the device but from what we’ve experienced, it really is a great way to stay entertained while stuck in traffic (when you’re not driving of course) or when you’re not home. The full review should be up in a few days.
