It’s aimed at beating both Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 and Samsung’s Exynos 8995
While Huawei didn’t have phone to announce this past IFA, they did take the wraps off of the processor that would be powering their next generation flagship, the Mate 10. The Kirin 970 is a brand-new processor that puts the focus on AI, thanks to its neutral processing unit (NPU) for artificial intelligence programs, a first for any processor of its kind.
The new NPU is slated to drive both cloud-based an on-device AI, which ultimately will lead to better speed, more personalized data and better understanding of the things around it. As a result Kirin 970 is able to understand what’s in front of the phone and tailoring the settings of the device depending on what’s needed from it.
The new processor is built from a new 10nm advanced process, and comes with an octa-core processor and a 12-core GPU (Mali G72). The new processor will be powering the company’s AI efforts moving forward, despite Huawei not having their own AI-focused digital assistant like Google’s Assistant, Apple’s Siri or Samsung’s Bixby.
The Huawei Mate 10 Is Launching On October 16
