Huawei’s New Lithium Battery Can Be Charged To 50% in Just 5 Minutes

Quick charge to the max

Despite mobile processors getting more cores every year, manufacturers have yet to solve the battery equation of the modern smartphone, save for squeezing more and more mAh in increasingly skinnier phones. Huawei may have found the solution to our problem, and while it’s not the all-week battery we’ve been waiting for, it’s the next best thing.

See, the company has managed to produce a lithium-ion battery that charges amazingly fast – a 3000mAh cell during a test was charged to almost 50% capacity in just 5 minutes. A second protype battery was charged to 68% in just 2 minutes though that particular prototype could only hold 600mAh of power.

As nice as the new tech is, it’s obviously still not ready for primetime – Huawei used a special charger for the video for the fast charging tech to work, and there’s still no word on how soon we can see this tech pop up on phones. Still, it’s nice to know that a company is looking for solutions to our ever burgeoning battery woes.
