Packaging and contents:

The S!gma Evo comes in a very nice looking and solid box that has the photo of the unit in front and the specs on the back, Inside, you’ll see the phone itself, along with a number of freebies that’s been thrown in by KingCom – two 2200mAh batteries, two screen protectors (with one already pre-installed on the device) USB cable and charger, manual and a very nice flip cover.

???????????????????????????????

We’re really blown away by the amount of freebies of the S!gma Evo, considering that other brands just throw in a screen protector and maybe a flipcase in the mix. Good job there KingCom.

Initial Impressions: Fingerprint scanner works surprisingly well

We’ve come across a few fingerprint scanners in phones in our time, and one of our main concerns whenever we see this biometric feature is accuracy. A fingerprint scanner needs to be accurate and work well most of the time, because if it doesn’t users won’t bother turning it on. The one on the S!gma Evo is located on the back, which allows you to use your index finger to unlock the phone.

In practice the fingerprint scanner on the S!gma Evo (which is similar to the one used on notebooks and laptops) works quite well, and recognizes our finger probably 8/10 times. You will have to center your index finger to the actual reader though or it’s not going to work which takes quite a bit of practice on your end, truth be told.

The overall design of the S!gma Evo has a subdued elegance, and while it’s not the flashiest phone out in the market, it’s rather nice to look at nevertheless. The back of the phone has a nice matte finish and is removable, which gives you access to the 2200mAh battery as well as the SIM and SD Card slots. The power button is located on the right while the volume rocker rests on the left side. Both the 3.5mm jack and the USB port are located on top.

The S!gma Evo uses a gorgeous 5-inch HD Super AMOLED panel that’s very nice to look at. It has very good contrast which is to be expected, as well as good color reproduction and excellent viewing angles all around.

The S!gma Evo is powered by MediaTek’s ever reliable MT6592, running at 1.4GHz. This is paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. Results from benchmarks are pretty much what we expected. Were actually really interested to see how the battery life of the S!gma Evo fares since the lower clocked octa-core processor from MediaTek paired with the power efficient Super AMOLED display should yield excellent results, though only a full review will show that for sure.
