PH Samsung Galaxy S5’s are finally getting Android 5.0!
If you own a Galaxy S5 and been wondering where the heck the Lollipop update for your phone is, don’t despair. A reader has given us a heads-up that the new update is available for PH Galaxy S5 owners, though he managed to snag his via Kies. The Lollipop update weighs in at a hefty 1500MB which means that it’ll take a while to download – be patient and maybe make a cup of coffee?
What can you expect with the new Android Lollipop update? While there are a lot of small upgrades, there are two major ones that you can be excited about.
Android 5.0 Lollipop is all about optimization and efficiency. You can feel this the most with the notifications tray, camera app, and multi-tasking. Over-all it should be smoother and faster compared to the KitKat experience.
One of the best features of Android 5.0 Lollipop is the change they did with the Notifications Tray. That still holds (though with some issues) with the Samsung Galaxy S5 despite TouchWiz. Animations are smoother and better. You can also now swipe and expand the individual notifications. Note though that there’s an issue with launching the app directly when double tapping the notification on your screen while the phone is locked. Because of TouchWiz you’ll need to do a downward swipe first and then you can finally expand the notifications and go to your desired app.
Samsung began the Android Lollipop roll-out in December, and it’s taken the company a while to update phones in the country to the new version of the OS. Again, you’ll want to use the Kies software of Samsung to check if the Lollipop update for your phone is ready.
