NVIDIA Announces Titan V, The Most Powerful GPU On The Planet

It’s the first GPU based on their new Volta architecture

NVIDIA seem to be announcing powerful, top-tier GPUs every other quarter, and that’s exactly what they did today with their new Titan V. NVIDIA’s calling their new prosumer card “the most powerful PC GPU ever created” a title that we regularly hear from the company’s flagship models.

That being said, NVIDIA’s not kidding, as the Titan V handily eclipses anything that’s currently available for the consumer market. The Titan V is based on its new Volta GPU architecture, and is focused on AI and machine learning. The Titan V has 21.1 billion transistors in a chip thats’ only 815 mm2, with the card producing a full 110 teraflops of compute power. Other specs include 12GB of HMB2 memory, 5120 CUDA cores and 640 tensor cores that offer up to 9 times the deep-learning performance of its predecessor.

“Our vision for Volta was to push the outer limits of high performance computing and AI. We broke new ground with its new processor architecture, instructions, numerical formats, memory architecture and processor links,” said Huang. “With TITAN V, we are putting Volta into the hands of researchers and scientists all over the world. I can’t wait to see their breakthrough discoveries.”

While you can probably play games with the Titan V, it’s very much geared towards researchers that require a powerful GPU for AI and scientific simulation processing. The price for a single Titan V is around $2,999, or Php 151K, which puts it out of reach of regular Joes like you and me.
