Samsung Shipped The Most Phones in 2017

But Xiaomi had the most growth overall

International Data Corporation and Strategy Analytics has published their reports on the state of global smartphone shipments last year, and it looks like Korean firm Samsung is still the top dog as far as the sheer number of phones shipped.

Looking at the numbers, Samsung managed to ship around 74.4 million smartphones in Q4 last year, bringing their 2017 total to 317.5 million units shipped. Next in line is Apple, which managed to ship around 77.3 million smartphones in Q4 last year bringing their total to 215.8 million units.

Huawei is at third place, shipping 41 million units in Q4 2017 and nabbing a grand total of 153 million units shipped. OPPO is at fourth place, with 29.5 million units shipped in Q4 2017 with a grand total of 118 million total.

Xiaomi comes in at fifth place, with 27.8 million units shipped in Q4 2017 for a grand total of 91.3 million smartphones shipped for 2017.

While Xiaomi is at 5th place in terms of total units shipped for 2017, it’s the big winner overall this year, as every other manufacturer has seen a drop in units shipped YoY. Xiaomi managed to double its shipments from Q4 2016 at just 14.9 million units to 27.8 million units for Q4 2017, a feat that wasn’t replicated by other manufacturers.

In fact, global shipments are down for the top 4 manufacturers overall, which is the biggest annual fall in smartphone history according to Strategy Analytics with 438 million shipments in Q4 2016 down to just 400 in Q4 2017.
