Samsung Will Start Selling Exynos Chipsets To Other Vendors

They’re looking to expand their chip marketshare

Samsung’s looking to expand their customer base for their Exynos chips to other companies, according to a report in Digitimes. While Samsung does allow other companies to use their Exynos processor (namely Meizu), the new report says that the Korean firm is looking to expand to the mid-range market beyond their traditional customers.

Their main competitor will be MediaTek, who has taken their focus off of their flagship line to concentrate on their mid-range offerings. Samsung’s edge here is that they can offer a complete range of solutions to potential customers, bundling other components like OLED displays, flash memory as well as storage solutions.

Samsung is currently at fourth place in terms of marketshare for SoCs, behind behind Qualcomm, Apple and MediaTek. Samsung’s new push for their processors will put them in a better position when 5G technology becomes fully integrated and available around 2020.
