Right on with 2018’s trends
Things got a little exciting when Evan Blass shared what appears to be the back of the upcoming OnePlus 6. OnePlus, being the nice guys, shared to The Verge’s Vlad Savov a tease of the OnePlus 6’s front end. Lo and behold, it is basically what everyone was expecting.
As expected, the OnePlus 6 will do sport a notch, along with a bottom chin. Anticipating the criticisms behind its decision, OnePlus remained to be unapologetic with its design choices. OnePlus’ Carl Pei explained to Savov the decision, stating that the notch is needed to move “the entire notification bar up, giving users more content on their screen.”
Pei even noted that the notch on the OnePlus 6 is smaller than the one found on the iPhone X and bigger than the one found on the Essential Phone. The precise size of the notch? 19.616mm x 7.687mm.
Aside from the notch, the OnePlus 6 will also have a chin, and they have a reason for that: With the iPhone X’s chin-less approach, this resulted to a thicker phone as Apple had to use a flexible OLED panel that bends towards the phone’s back. This is the reason why it is so expensive to repair an iPhone X if you break the screen or the glass back.
With these new design leaks, we are more or less certain that the OnePlus 6 will not look like OPPO’s R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition. What do you think about the OnePlus 6’s design so far?
