The P30 Pro is Not Getting A Quad Camera Setup

So what phone is getting the quad camera setup then?

A big surprise comes in a month before we get to see Huawei’s P30 family: while we have all speculated that the P30 Pro will come with four rear cameras, an exclusive preview by Digital Trends confirms that the P30 Pro will retain a triple rear camera setup like its predecessor.

Digital Trends was able to take photos of a dummy P30 Pro unit dubbed Vogue (which is Huawei’s internal code name). Visually speaking, it looks a lot like the P20 Pro, except that the camera module is bigger to integrate all three cameras. With the revised arrangement, the laser autofocus module is now placed together with the LED flash.

Speaking of the camera module, the prototype that Digital Trends saw comes with a bump that is roughly as thick as the one found on the P20 Pro—which is quite a feat considering that the P30 Pro is rumored to have a 10x lossless zoom setup. That being said, the Leica-branded lenses (branded as Link for this prototype) uses a Summitar (written as Summitor on this prototype) branding instead of Summilux.

Like its predecessor, the P30 Pro will not have a headphone jack at the bottom. Digital Trends was not able to take photos of the front as the design is not yet final, though the rear panel is confirmed to be the P30 Pro.

The question remains: so what P30 variant has the quad rear camera setup if it is not the P30 Pro? The best possible answer, for now, is that it might be a 5G variant of the P30. Save for a triple rear camera setup and a Kirin 980 processor, there’s very little detail to the upcoming P30 series.

All of these questions should be answered by March 26, so we will know by then which mystery phone carries the quad rear camera setup.
