THL W8S Announced for November

It looks like THL is very serious with the local technology and gadget market here. After the successful launches of their entry-level quad-core THL W100 and premium THL W11 Monkey King, they’re back with a new flagship called the THL W8S. This new phone features a 5-inch Full HD display, turbo quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 32GB internal storage (expandable via microSD card). It’s definitely a very competitive spec sheet, one that you can’t ignore anymore. Only thing missing really is LTE and you’re golden.

Speaking of spec sheets, here’s a quick rundown of what you can expect with the THL W8S.

THL W8s Spec Sheet

  • 1.5GHz Quad Core MediaTek MT6589T processor
  • PowerVR SGX544MP graphics
  • 2GB RAM
  • 32GB internal storage, expandable via MicroSD
  • 5.0-inches Full HD IPS LCD display, 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • 13.0 megapixels primary camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 5.0 megapixels secondary facing camera
  • 3G, HSPA+, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS
  • 2,000 mAh battery
  • Android Jelly Bean 4.2
  • SRP: P12,495

We’re a bit concerned with the 2,000mAh battery especially since this has fHD. However we’re confident that brightness and 3G management should be enough to get us through a full day. Anyway, we’ll definitely try to get our hands on a review unit as soon as it becomes available in November.

  1. fhd quads with 2000mah… talk about under powered… this probably no different than the flare 2x’s setup with 1500mah batteries, lols

  2. If I am to be asked, I’d rather have the LG optimus G for a few more thousand bucks in Kimstore. (15,580 vs 12,495) LG optimus G for having a better brand name, NFC, LTE, Dolby sound and a much powerful processor/ GPU combo as against THL’s larger 5 inch Full HD screen and a 13/5 Megapixel back and front camera. Just my two cents.

    1. Optimus G is stuck on Android 4.1 while the W11 comes with 4.2.2. The W11 has a display capable of taking on the G’s head on, similar amount of battery life, dual sim slots, dual 13MP cameras that both take better pics than the G’s back camera, less bloatware, and (in my opinion) a slightly more eye catching design. While the G does has it’s advantages, the W11 does have a lot of advantages as well. Apparently the Monkey King 2 is coming before the end of this year with an alloy body, 8-core processor and LTE. Can’t wait for that too launch as well.

      1. Most phones usually are stuck on the android version installed in it out of the box. Optimus G came way earlier than the W11 (which by the way I was comparing it with the W8s) so its definitely unfair for it to be compared against a newer released smartphone. OTA updates for Chinese branded phones are also very rare with the exception to the Oppo Find5. The camera and the display is a given as I have indicated it in my previous post though I may have overlooked the dual sim capability. I will always opt to go with a better chipset combo, nfc and lte than a mere advantage in display and camera. But still at the end of the day, as long as the smartphone serves its purpose, personal preference will matter the most.

  3. What I don’t like about this is the logo up front. The included battery is also a let down. The design borrows itself from S4. If it has 720p screen instead of fHD it would’ve been a lot faster.

  4. I just checked their chinese website and I found out that they have s lot of phones in their list. What I liked the most is the W300 which boasts a 6.5 inch FHD screen! Rather wait for it to arrive in the shores of PH. 🙂

  5. As long as they use the same brand ng processor, it will still not perform that well..kahit na octa core pa yan, wala rin pag babago..kung mag snapdragon processot sila, bakasakali p..its dangerously close to the branded phone price na..at that price, the s3 will still be better, again its not the ghz of the processor pag minsan..its the kind of processor..2 gigs of ram will push the performance of this phone..pero i doubt kung yung expected performance nyo yung makukuha..
