Two iPhone 8 Plus Batteries Supposedly Swell, Apple Investigates

Uh oh

Apple’s new iPhone 8 Plus flagship allegedly has battery problems, according to at least two social media posts. Two separate reports from iPhone 8 users in Taiwan and Japan show two iPhone 8 Plus phones split apart as their batteries swelled up.

Battery swelling isn’t unheard of – it typically happens to devices that have Lithium-ion batteries inside of them that have either been improperly handled, have manufacturing defects or have just gone past its normal use cycle (i.e., old). If the reports are true, then this is a big problem for Apple.

It’s not surprising then that Apple is supposedly looking into the issue, and is investigating the matter. Apple’s swift response to the two incidents isn’t surprising given what Samsung went through in their Galaxy Note 7 debacle a year earlier which were brought about by manufacturing defects in the batteries supplied with the flagship. As of now the two incidents are isolated occurrences, since Apple has already shipped millions of their new flagships without any issues whatsoever.
