Another brand strengthens its position at the 5G Race

Following developments from OPPO and Xiaomi, vivo is the latest brand to successfully test 5G networks using the NEX. Just like OPPO’s and Xiaomi’s test, vivo’s modified NEX uses Qualcomm’s X50 5G modem to make 5G connectivity possible. What’s different in vivo’s test is that they made adjustments to the NEX’s RF /antenna designs and battery space to make it suitable for 5G networks.

vivo classifies its modified NEX as a pre-commercial model, with the first batch of commercial 5G smartphones to be released by 2019. “The combination of 5G and AI Technologies will turn smartphones into intelligent platforms which will take the industry to new heights,” vivo Senior Vice President Alex Feng said.

vivo has been active in developing 5G technology since 2016 with the 5G Research Institute in Beijing. Since then, vivo has been one of the main contributors in the development of 5G.
