Is diamond the new circle?
vivo is set to go against the current norm of circular camera modules, opting for a diamond-shaped one for two of its upcoming phones. The first one spotted to have this module design is the V17, which was leaked by Russian tech media. The non-pro variant still hs a quad-rear camera setup, though it is rearranged differently due to the new module design. One of the four cameras is confirmed to be a 48-megapixel snapper, and our guess is that the other three cameras is similar to the Philippine variant of the V17 Pro.
Moving to the front, the V17 will employ a dewdrop notch, and the phone will also use USB-C as well. Rumored specs include 8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, and a 4500mAh battery.
Over in China, official renders of the S5 have surfaced. While it has the same diamond-shaped module, the S5’s camera arrangement is slightly different from the V17. The quad-rear setup consists of a 48-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, 5-megapixel depth sensor, and 2-megapixel macro camera.
Up front, you have a 6.44-inch display with a punch hole that is home to a 32-megapixel selfie snapper. For the internals, the S5 is rumored to have a Snapdragon 712 processor paired, 8GB RAM, up to 256GB internal storage, and a 4100mAh battery.
We expect vivo to reveal more details about both phones in the coming weeks.
