Emphasis on might

One thing that Xiaomi fans have to contend with in the PH is unauthorized resellers. Since Mi Philippines have stopped responding to questions (seriously, their last Facebook post was in freaking November) and the last new product that was introduced in the official online store was the (now aging) Mi 4i. Xiaomi fans have had to rely on resellers in the country for their Mi fix, which isn’t always ideal.

That’s pretty much what we’ve come to expect from Xiaomi and their new flagship, the Mi 5, but that may not be the case. Speaking with the Verge, Hugo Barra, VP of Global for Xiaomi said that the phone will be coming to core markets. Core markets that presumably include the PH, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, etc.

Normally we’d be happy and expect the phone to arrive in the next few weeks or months, but as we said earlier, that’s no guarantee. Our other ASEAN neighbors have already gotten the Mi Note and other phones while Mi Philippines still show the Mi 4i as the newest smartphone you can buy. One can only hope.

We’ve reached out to Xiaomi’s official PR presence in the PH about this matter and we’ll update the story once we get word.
